Lorsque les gens regardent ses œuvres d’art, il espère qu’ils ne remarquent pas seulement la beauté qu’il capture dans la flore et la faune de son environnement, mais qu’ils comprennent également qu’ils entrevoient son essence en tant que Kanien’kehá:ka. Dans le monde d’aujourd’hui, où tout va très vite, il pense que nous négligeons souvent la connection significative que nous offre la nature. Il suggère qu’en appréciant la magnificence des arbres, du sol et des eaux, nous pouvons en tirer des enseignements précieux. Aaron Rice est une artiste multidisciplinaire d’origine Kanien'keha:ka et Écossais. Il utilise l’estampe, de la projection vidéographique, textiles, installation, et de la sculpture dans ses œuvres nuancées. Il a obtenu son Baccalauréat en arts visuels à l’université d’arts et design Emily Carr en 2025. La Galerie She:kon, qui signifie « bonjour » en kanien’kéhà, se concentre sur la présentation d’expositions individuelles d’artistes et de commissaires autochtones prometteurs. He hopes that when people view his artwork, they not only notice the beauty he captures in the flora and fauna of his surroundings, but also understand that they are glimpsing his essence as a Kanien’kehá:ka person. In today’s fast-paced world, he believes we often overlook the meaningful connection that nature offers. He suggests that by appreciating the magnificence of trees, soil, and waters, we can learn valuable teachings from them. This call for submissions covers a SEVEN-MONTH RESIDENCY, FROM AUGUST 4, 2025, TO FEBRUARY 27, 2026, during which a First Nations, Inuit or Métis artist will EXPLORE THE MUSEUM’S COLLECTIONS TO FIND INSPIRATION FOR A RESEARCH-CREATION PROJECT.
