Ce projet vise à célébrer la riche diversité de l'art autochtone et à offrir aux artistes une scène leur permettant de partager leurs perspectives et leurs histoires uniques avec un public international. Événement incontournable pour la création contemporaine du monde entier, _Révélations [1]_ est de retour dans l’écrin du Grand Palais Éphémère du 7 au 11 juin 2023. Après une édition remarquée en juin 2022, décalée du fait du contexte sanitaire et ayant rassemblé plus de 400 exposants, cette 6ème édition de la biennale marquera son 10ème anniversaire. Organisée par Ateliers d’Art de France [2], elle met à l’honneur plusieurs centaines de créateurs et artistes de la matière au coeur de Paris, face à la Tour Eiffel. Chaque édition met en lumière la création contemporaine d’une région du monde à travers l’exposition de pièces d’exception de ses créateurs. En 2023, c’est le Québec qui dévoile le meilleur de sa création, porté conjointement par le Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec [3] et la Maison des métiers d’art de Québec [4], avec le soutien du gouvernement du Québec et de la Délégation générale du Québec à Paris [5]. Lors d’une première participation à l’exposition internationale_ Le Banquet_ en 2019, le Québec avait séduit les visiteurs de Révélations par son audace et sa liberté de ton. Le Québec est un terreau fertile pour la créativité de ses artistes. Au carrefour des cultures nordaméricaine et européenne, les métiers d’art québécois sont riches d’une diversité d’expressions et de pratiques, qui témoignent de l’histoire de la nation québécoise et des Peuples qui la constituent, particulièrement les Premières Nations et les Inuits. _Révélations_ mettra en lumière des artistes dont le rapport à la matière témoigne d’une façon d’appréhender autrement le monde. La sélection québécoise, pilotée par la commissaire et artiste Marie-Ève G. Castonguay Les métiers d’art québécois sont en pleine mutation et se tournent vers la transdisciplinarité. Les artistes développent des pratiques hybrides où se côtoient plusieurs langages afin de mettre de l’avant leur propos. Mérida Anderson fait cohabiter dans ses installations la céramique et l’art graphique. La transposition de techniques dans d’autres matières ou échelles se retrouve dans le travail de vannerie de papier de Julie Bénédicte Lambert, ainsi que dans les sculptures de Maude Lauzière-Dumas, dont la formation en bijouterie inspire les méthodes d’assemblage. Les juxtapositions de matières sont prisées par Montserrat Duran Muntadas, qui combine le verre soufflé au textile, ainsi que par Catherine Granche, dont les bijoux en argent et or intègrent des moulages et façonnages de porcelaine. De façon plus symbiotique, Paula Murray intègre de la fibre de verre à même porcelaine, et force ainsi la matière à se fissurer sous la tension induite par ce mariage de matériaux incompatibles. The project aims to celebrate the rich diversity of Indigenous art and to provide a platform for these artists to share their unique perspectives and stories with a international audience. A must-attend event for contemporary art from around the world, _Révélations_ returns to the Grand Palais Éphémère from June 7 to 11, 2023. After a remarkable edition in June 2022, postponed due to the health context and bringing together over 400 exhibitors, this 6th edition of the biennial will mark its 10th anniversary. Each edition highlights contemporary creation from one region in the world. Castonguay Quebec's arts and crafts sector is undergoing a major transformation and is turning towards transdisciplinarity. Artists are developing hybrid practices that combine several languages in order to put forward their message. In her installations, Mérida Anderson brings together ceramics and graphic art. The transposition of techniques into other materials or scales is found in the paper basketry work of Julie Bénédicte Lambert, as well as in the sculptures of Maude Lauzière-Dumas, whose training in jewellery inspires her assembly methods. Juxtapositions of materials are favoured by Montserrat Duran Muntadas, who combines blown glass with textiles, and by Catherine Granche, whose silver and gold jewellery incorporates porcelain mouldings and shaping. In a more symbiotic way, Paula Murray integrates fibreglass with porcelain, forcing the material to crack under the tension induced by this marriage of incompatible materials. As an example of this diversity, Le Banquet features six contemporary Indigenous artists from Quebec— Caroline Monnet, Craig Commanda, Ludovic Boney, M.C. Snow, Nadia Myre, and Renee Condo. Their works are a beautiful blend of traditional art forms and contemporary practices, creating a unique aesthetic that is both familiar and innovative, and the variety of materials and techniques on view both affirm and challenge assumptions about what constitutes as Indigenous art.
