Nous vivons une période exceptionnelle. Suite à la pandémie de Covid 19, les rassemblements publics sont interdits. Les galeries d’art, comme la plupart des autres lieux publics, sont fermées. La cinquantaine d’artistes participant à la Biennale d’art contemporain autochtone 2020 ont investi beaucoup de temps et de soin dans cet important événement culturel. L’équipe de la BACA, son conseil d’administration et les commissaires ne souhaitent  pas laisser tomber les artistes, ni son public. Grâce à la créativité des artistes, à la flexibilité des commissaires et de l’équipe administrative, la BACA 2020 présentera ses expositions, performances et autres événements de la Biennale en ligne. L’exposition virtuelle débutera le 23 avril et se terminera le 21 juin. En plus d’une visite virtuelle de l’exposition chez Art Mûr et d’un PDF du catalogue de l’exposition (en vente - bientôt suivi du livre physique), les visiteurs découvriront également les œuvres des autres expositions, des conférences sur des œuvres sélectionnées, des performances en direct, une soirée DJ, des vidéos d’artistes, des ateliers, des cercles de partage, des tables rondes et d’autres activités. Si tout se passe bien, certains des lieux d’exposition seront accessibles lorsque le gouvernement lèvera les restrictions et permettra progressivement la réouverture des espaces publics. Nous remercions les artistes et nos partenaires d’exposition pour leur patience et leur ingéniosité et nous avons bien hâte de partager avec vous leurs créations innovantes. Lancement de la Biennale Nous convions donc le 23 avril pour le lancement de la Biennale qui se fera dans l’espace virtuel des réseaux sociaux. Pour ce lancement, une cérémonie présidée par les Aînés de la communauté de Kahnawà:ke sera un moment de recueillement et de reconnaissance de l’accueil qui nous est fait par les Gardiens de ce territoire. Toujours en diffusion sur les réseaux sociaux, David Garneau, Faye Mullen et rudi aker, commissaires des expositions, introduiront leur projet. Nous poursuivrons le lancement avec un 5 à 7 en streaming. [2020-baca-favicon2x] Welcome 5th Contemporary Native Art Biennial _Kahwatsiretátie : TeionkwariwaiennaTekariwaiennawahkòntie_ _Honoring kinship_ Exhibitions and online programming, starting April 23, 2020 We are pleased to announce that the Contemporary Native Art Biennial will take place on schedule! These are exceptional times. As a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, physical public gatherings are prohibited. Art galleries, among most other public sites, are closed. The more than fifty artists participating in the Contemporary Native Art Biennial 2020 have committed a great deal of time and care in this important cultural event. We, the BACA curatorial and administrative team, are dedicated to sharing these works and practices with you. Thanks to the grace of the artists, the flexibility of the curators and the administrative team, BACA 2020 will present its exhibitions, performances, and other community programming online. Opening Ceremony will be on April 23 and the virtual exhibition will continue until June 21. In addition to a virtual tour of the Art Mûr exhibition and a PDF of the exhibition catalogue (for sale—soon to be followed by the physical book), visitors will also discover works from the other exhibitions, curatorial talks about selected works, live performances, a live streaming dance party with live DJ, artist videos, workshops, talking circles, among other projects and events. If all goes well, some of the physical galleries will have exhibitions when the government lifts restrictions and gradually allows reopening public spaces. We thank the artists and our exhibition partners for their patience and ingenuity and look forward to sharing their innovative creative works with you. Launch of the Biennale We invite you on April 23 for the launch of the Biennale which will be held in the virtual space of social networks. For this launch, a ceremony presided over by the Elders from Kahnawà:ke will be a moment of meditation and recognition of the welcome we are given by the traditional stewards of this territory. Also on social media, David Garneau, Faye Mullen and rudi aker, curators, will introduce their project. The virtual meeting will be followed by a DJ-live streaming happy hour. The Contemporary Native Art Biennial (BACA) is a key event to recognize and support contemporary Indigenous art and artists.
